I've been spending a lot more time in my home studio, which I absolutely love. I've been feeling more and more like creating when I get home, instead of feeling burned out after a long day at work like I tend to! Every month Ephraim and I are having a weekend to ourselves, and I tend to spend a great deal of time on those weekends in the studio, enjoying the natural light to get a bit of sewing or painting done. It's a rare treat, and I really enjoy it when I get the chance! I took my camera out for a couple minutes the last time around, and captured a few details of my home work space. One of these days, I'd like to get it in good enough order to do a full "tour": yeah, as if it's ever going to be totally clean in there!! Maybe some day...

Hey Erin! Just say you post this on BBN and had to stop by. Great images!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Sarah!
DeleteI love my little creative workshop space too. I spend as much time as possible there. Love your photos, especially the last one with the threads :-)
ReplyDeleteThis makes me really happy...:)
ReplyDeleteMe too :). It's a lot less fun in there at night though, haha! But I'm doing a 1940's sew along this month, so I'm going to be in there quite a bit nowadays!
DeleteI love these snippets of your office. Those colorful spools of thread are so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteCheers.
I love having pops of colour all around. Right now I even have my floral swing coat on my dress form in a corner, and it really livens the place up while it's too darn cold to wear it!

Oh I love your studio! And is that a serger? What are you making?
ReplyDeleteAlso, any recommended patterns for a newbie like me?
It is a serger! I was just resizing some T-Shirts for my boyfriend that day, nothing too exciting!
DeleteAs for beginner patterns, I don't really know. I taught myself to sew using Japanese sewing magazines (the gothic and lolita bible. I was way cool in high school) and then jumped right from making my prom dress with a commercial pattern, to drafting my own patterns from scratch. Skirts and bags were the first things I taught myself to sew, and can be a lot of fun. Plus, who doesn't want a new bag? Messenger style is simple to draft yourself, and experiment with different styles of closures for pockets, a top flap, and such. Just have fun!!
You're making me want to take out my very neglected sewing machine! Which isn't entirely a bad thing since I've been in a crafting and making rut!
DeleteYou have a really colourful studio, I love it! I really need to get my sewing machine out more often
