O.O.T.D: Polka dots and Brown Leather Booties

I wore this little outfit to work last week.  As we go into fall, I'm looking for more ways to layer pieces to make them last.  Tights are always a good choice, and I need the opaque ones here because all topshop dresses seem to be very short.  Hence pairing it with a nice long cardigan, so I still looked very "covered up".
I love these boots so much.  I ended up going back for them toward the end of the day at the Toronto Clothing Show a few years back; the soles were in bad shape and the price was pretty high, so I came back later to see if she'd budge on the price a bit.  I still haven't taken them in to get fixed, but they are needing a bit of TLC. One of the cute buttons popped off, but I think I may be able to make my own replacement microsuede covered button.  I'll get around to that...sometime.
The Deets:
Polka dot dress and tights: Topshop
Cardigan: Macy's, unknown brand
Bomber Jacket: thrifted
Booties: Toronto Clothing Show

All these photos were taken by Ephraim.  He's getting pretty good with the camera!! We were both totally excited about this background, too.  It's the barn of an abandoned house down the street from me.  There's also the full brick house, and a shut well.  Supposedly it has caught fire several times.  Creepy!

  1. OK, where the hell do I start. I love that you wore the button up underneath--very clever way of making this (super!) cute dress work appropriate! And, those boots are amazing - those buttons?! And, the photos are FANTASTIC. I am currently trying to figure out a camera to get for myself for my bday (soon!)...any recommendations? Much, much, much love!

    1. I always see such interesting layering on A Beautiful Mess, and I've been trying to work more of that into my wardrobe. I'm actually wearing a dress as a top with another skirt right now, haha! I love the boots, the combination of leather and suede is so pretty. it didn't photograph well, but the wee little heel on them is also covered in suede. They make me feel like a Beatle circa 1964 :D.

As for cameras, I bought myself the Nikon D3000 a couple years ago, when I needed it for photographing set models I made at school. I bought it with a kit lens at Best Buy for about $600 with tax, and I'm so glad I made that purchase. The entry level body was inexpensive and had a couple built in guides to help me learn about SLR photography, and achieve what my goals were. I invested in the 50mm/1.4 lens this summer as a reward for finishing my first season at Shaw. One drawback is that the Nikkor lenses are very expensive (Canon has way better deals going!), but every lens I invest in really means I have a whole new camera. Now, camera equipment has become my favourite thing to peruse online, and is the reward for meeting my other financial goals! Photography has totally become my favourite hobby!

  3. I agree with everyone else, you're layering here is amazing! Love the mix of textures in this outfit too, and the colours are perfect for this time of year. I think this is my favourite Autumn outfit so far this year.

I'm trying to teach my lovely boyfriend some photography skills at the moment, the wind is making my tripod too risky at the moment. I forgot how different it is having someone else take photos of me. Ephraim is really good, love the last photo xo

    2. The denim shirt really helped to make it cozy enough! It's getting quite cold in the mornings now.
I love when I can have Ephraim take my photos!! He does a much nicer job than a tripod. I think we've sorted out what kind of photos we're going for now :)
And I'm so happy with the portrait! Daisy does such cute work. I was just waiting to post it with an upcoming blog makeover!

    1. I love that it has half sleeves, and a boat neckline :D. I have quite a few dresses in my closet but find I don't wear them in the winter, I'm trying to find ways to get more use out of what I have!

  10. I love this shade of yellow, so bold and bright and the layering works so well on you, I feel it makes me look so bulky because I have a larger bust than the rest of me! I found your blog link on the BBN and I'm glad that I did. New follower! Have a great weekend.

    1. I also have a slightly lager bust, but I wear a lot of fitted waists to keep my silhouette defined and not look too bulky in layers.
      Welcome aboard, Nicole :)
